What is Mental Health Skill Building?

Mental Health Skill Building (MHSB) is a community-based program intended to help individuals experiencing serious mental illness to reduce the likelihood of further psychiatric hospitalization, incarceration, homelessness, or transition to more restricted environments.

The main goal of MHSB is to ensure individuals maintain continued independence in their communities through skills training in ADLS, IADLS, and coping skills.

It is our mission to support our clients to acquire life skills and develop stronger relationships to enhance their quality of life.

Who is eligible?

Individuals age 21 and over must meet all the following criteria in order to be eligible to receive mental health skill-building services:
• Diagnosed with a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, or bipolar I/II
• Have a prior psychiatric hospital admission, Temporary Detention Order (TDO), or crisis services
• The individual shall have had a prescription for anti-psychotic, mood stabilizing, or anti-depressant medications within 12 months prior to the assessment date.
